A coast made for slower journeys

Sanriku: what and where?

Sanriku is the dramatic Pacific coastline running through three Japanese prefectures (Aomori, Iwate, and northern Miyagi). It is known for rugged cliffs and coves, fishing communities, long-distance trails, and cultures shaped by life beside the sea.

Our base is in Karakuwa, Kesennuma: a welcoming southern gateway to Sanriku and a meeting point for the Michinoku Coastal Trail, Miyagi Olle, and Sanriku Geopark.
